I actual feel shocked, he is the first to ask. “Mobsy, though he has a different name.” I shrug.

“Cute,” Felix chortles. “Like you.” He winks.

I roll my eyes, looking at Oran who looks amused at our exchange. “Do you always charm the girls this way?” I ask Felix humorously.

  “No, just you.”

“Come on charmer,” he says to Felix. “Pixie, you have gym,” Oran announces.

Felix laughs walking away, he gives me another cheeky wink making my heart flutter.

I have never felt this way before, especially with two males.

“Is this a mixed class?” I ask looking around.

“Yes, we’re here to help. We’re not first years, we have been here three years already and decided to carry-on with our studies here. We... err have been watching over someone. A task given to us,” Oran replies. He walks through the door, waiting for me to follow.

I frown at his odd behaviour, but figure it’s not my business to ask.

I follow after him, nervous about using my magic with others watching. I look around, seeing Honey talking to a tall male, her Honey coloured wings flutter happily.

“I’ll leave you in the capable hands of the one of your instructors. Listen to him,” Oran says with a slight bow.

I walk to Honey; she ducks her head at whatever the male has said. She blushes, making him smile.

  “Hey Honey,” I announce.

The male turns, his eyes narrowing. The red in his eyes making me pause. I move back shocked by his expression. “Sorry, did I interrupt?” I ask, looking from him to Honey.

“No, I was just going to find a spot to sit,” Honey replies, biting her lip nervously. “We can catch up later,” she says to the male.

He looks surprised by her dismissal. He gives her a small smile and swiftly walks away.

“Well that wasn’t awkward at all,” I chuckle. “What’s his deal?”

“I don’t know, he was fine a minute ago. He seemed nice, not rude like he was to you,” she shakes her head baffled. “Sorry.”

“You don’t need to be sorry,” I reply. “He does, for being rude to a Princess.” I look to him and meet his eyes. They are still trained on me, the slit of his eyes unblinking. “Why is he staring at me like that? I have a good mind to go over there.”

“Please don’t, I’ll talk to him,” she says in a rush.

I see the frantic look in her eyes. Sighing, I let it go. “Fine, but if he looks at me that way again, I will deal with it myself.” I take a seat on the mat nearest to us and she follows.

We watch as everyone else does the same. I see my sister sneak in, she glances my way than takes a seat furthest from me.

The other doors to the back of the gym swing open to reveal a muscular male. Some of the female’s sigh, the males grumble.

“He looks like he is carved from stone,” I whisper to Honey; she giggles behind her hand.

“Do you have something to say to the entire class?” a voice booms.

My head whips up to see the instructor looking my way. Never one to back down from a challenge, I repeat my words. “I said, he looks like he is carved from stone.”

A shocked gasp and whispers echo around the hall. I lift my head, my eyebrow slightly raised.

“Are you challenging me?” His voice sends tingles up my spine. I feel an odd sensation come over me, I shake it off and look back at the male.

“No,” I reply in a confident tone, even though my heart is beating a mile a minute. “I was just answering your question.”

He peers at me, assessing me. I see a small twitch of his lips. “Well, I admire your honesty Princess Pixie.” He nods, turning to address the rest of the class.

“Today we will learn control. You are new to your magic, and if used correctly, you can do great things. Used incorrectly and you will see disaster. We have seen many pixies walk these grounds, most go on to the help the community, some the royal guard. We each have different elements to help our lands, to keep an order of things.” He paces back and forth, the class listening intently.

“The parents didn’t want us to tell you, but the head-pixie thinks it’s best that we prepare.” He pauses, everyone leans forward. “The lands are plagued by darkness once again. This happened before we were all born, our parents lived through it and thought they put a stop to it. For years the lands have been peaceful and serene since the war between us and the Dark Pixies.” A collective gasps rings through the room, even I do.

“We believe we have a very powerful Dark Pixie among us. This pixie is slowly destroying our world. We have our armies out searching, but have come back empty handed, some haven’t come back at all.” Again, another gasp.

“The head-pixie wants us to train harder, practice hard with your magic. We have with us today two other talented males, as well as me, and another will join us tomorrow; he is on a mission. We will put you through your paces. If you complain, we will train you harder.” He stops, looking at us all.

“I know this is a lot to take in, you’re new to your magic, but we don’t have time to waste if we have another war to fight.” He hovers off the ground. “Now all of you stand, we will partner your off.”

I groan, wondering who he is going to partner me with.

“Pixie,” he calls. I turn to him. “You will be partnered with me.” He gives me a smile. “Let’s see if you can knock my stone ass to the ground.”

My eyes widen as he moves around the room. My sister stands there glaring at me, I stick my tongue out and turn away.

“I would like to be partnered with my sister, if anyone knows her it’s me. Plus, I know she doesn’t have wings so I can go easy on her,” Silvia smirks at me.

“I’ll take on that challenge.” My lip curls and I stare her down.

“Very well. Why don’t everyone have a seat. This shouldn’t take long.” He chortles. “Face off each other, when your ready begin.” He takes a step back, arms crossed as he looks our way.

I place Mobsy on Honey’s shoulder, he chirps upset that I am moving him. “It’s fine Mobsy, she won’t hurt me,” I whisper.

I move away, taking a deep breath and facing my sister who is ready to attack me. Before I can even blink, she throws fire at me. Everyone gasps, moving further away from us. I move quickly out of the way, but not fast enough as it hits my shoulder. I flinch at the burn, but it cools instantly.

I see the males go to intervene. I shake my head holding my hand up to halt them.

I face her again, this time I am ready as she throws a bigger fire ball at me. It glows bright like the sun. I summon water; it flows from me putting out the fire that is aimed at my face.

She looks angrily at me, clearly annoyed that I haven’t been hurt yet. Her whole body combusts, covered in flames. Her eyes turn black as she advances on me.

I become angry, all my elements fighting to the surface of my body. I let them, they pour out of me as a unit, circling me. My feet lift off the ground, my sister follows me, eyes on me and never wavering.

All at once my magic snaps, cascading over us both. It explodes, throwing us back away from each other. My sister crashes into the wall, her head snapping, falling hard to the ground.

I gasp as she goes still, unmoving. I lower to the ground, racing to her. I place my hand on her shoulder, shaking her gently. She stirs and I breathe a sigh of relief. Her eyes open and she sits up, shoving me away from her. I stumble but strong arms catch me.

“Stay away from me you freak,” she hisses.

I reel back shocked by the venom in her voice, she glares at me as she shuffles back. She stands, flouncing out the room.

“I’m sorry Silvia, I don’t know what happened,” I say, but she ignores me, opening the door and slamming it shut behind her.

“That is why I suggested I train you,” the instructor whispers in my ear, making me shiver.

“I guess I will have to let you then,” I reply in a breathy whisper.

  He c
huckles sending heat to my core, “Damn, what is wrong with me”?

He pulls me to his chest, “Me,” he says.

  “Did you just hear me?”

  “I did.”

I blink stupidly, how is that possible, did I say it out loud?

“Come, people are watching and I have to train you to control that magic of yours.”

I move away from him, flushed. “I don’t even know your name,” I say.

“You can call me Zane, Professor Zane in class.” He winks, walking back to address the class.

I look at Honey who is staring wide eyed at me. I shrug, then sit and wait my turn. This is going to be a long day.

  Trial and error

Of course, word got out what happened between me and my sister. She had to go and see a healer, hurrying out the room before she could be seen too by Zane. She was there a week before they released her, saying she hit her head hard and that was the reason for her passing out. Drama queen, wanting all the attention, as usual.

Technically she shouldn’t be at the academy yet, let alone know how to use her magic so confidently. My magic acted on pure instinct, not liking the darkness coming from her.

I told Zane what I saw in her eyes, I told him about the black in her eyes as she called her magic. I also told him what I felt, and it didn’t feel like her.

Of course, he thought I was imagining it, but Oran and Felix believed me, saying they felt something too. We spoke about it for hours, discussing what our lands were up against and what we were all training for. It was scary, we were all scared.

The last war was devastating. We lost so many pixies, including seedlings. The war ravaged everything it touched, the dark pixies taking what was ours and killing everything in their path.

I told the boys I would meet up with them later. First, me and Mobsy were going for a fly around the academy.

When I exit the academy, he is already waiting in his full form. As I’m about to step towards my dragon, a pixie female steps up to me.

Her perfect red hair cascades down her back, her wings flutter behind her and match the fiery orange of her eyes. Her creamy skin glows in the sun, but all that beauty is ruined by the scowl on her face.

She steps into my space, jabbing her pointy finger into my chest. I stumble back, hitting the stairs with my heels. Mobsy jerks his head in our direction, his nostrils flaring angrily. I glance his way, giving him a gentle warning not to eat or kill this pixie.

I look back at the girl, she is staring at Mobsy and does take a step back from me. I grin as her eyes find mine once more.

“Stay away from Oran, he’s mine,” she snarls.

“Excuse me,” I say, exasperated. “What are you talking about?”

“Oran, the one that helped you with your outburst that could have killed us all.” Her hands rest on her hips, I guess in an intimidating way.

“Oh, that Oran. I still have no clue what you’re talking about. But if you don’t step away from me right now, you will know about it.” I am never one to back down from a challenge. Plus, I don’t take orders from anyone.

She scoffs. “You think you can take me on? I have had my magic far longer then you. In the summer lands, they teach you how to use your magic.”

“Then why are you here if you don’t need to be?” I smell bullshit, no one uses their magic until they attend the academy.

“That’s none of your concern. You will find out, Princess,” she almost spits the word. “That you won’t get your own way here, here we are all the same.” She looks behind me, tilting her head slightly. “Well, most of us,” she gestures to her wings, “are the same.” She snickers.

I feel my face heat, knowing she is speaking of my non-existent wings. I push past her, not wanting to engage her anymore. Her hand snakes out grabbing my arm painfully. She yanks me back, pinching my bicep.

“I wasn’t done talking, wingless wonder,” she hisses in my ear.

Mobsy lets out a roar, I wince as he stamps towards me. The girl releases me, moving back towards the academy entrance. I hurry towards the stomping dragon, purple smoke billowing from his nose.

“Mobsy,” I say gently, drawing his attention away from the girl who is hiding behind a pillar. I snicker, watching her body tremble.

“Mobsy,” I try again. He looks towards me, his eyes brighter than they have ever been. “Hey, I’m OK. She’s just a mean pixie who doesn’t know her boundaries.” I reach out, stroking under his head. A deep rumble vibrates on my hand, I smile into his eyes.

“She touched you,” he rumbles, his hot breath on my face. He smells like a hot fire on a cold day. “She shouldn’t touch you in that manner.”

“I know, but I will deal with it. You have drawn a lot of attention to us and I am struggling as it is to keep you here with me.”

“I don’t like that pixie female. She is still staring at us.” His eyes narrow into slits, smoke billowing from his nostrils.

“Why don’t you go fly while I try to calm the situation,” I say softly. My grandfather stands on the stairs, arms folded behind his back. He looks calm, but that means nothing to me. Sighing, I stroke Mobsy and push him towards the drop off. “Go on, we can go together another time,” I smile reassuringly.

Grunting, he walks toward the edge, wings spread wide before he takes to the air at speed. I watch him go, disappearing into the clouds. Sighing, I turn back to the academy. Standing next to the girl is my grandfather and Oran. Oran is glaring at her; she stands rigid next to him her eyes on the floor. Why do I attract unwanted attention?

I walk over to them, wondering why this pixie female is still standing there. I frown towards her, then my eyes catch Oran’s.

“Are you alright Pixie?” he asks, his eyes flickering towards the pixie. “Trixie didn’t hurt you, did she?”

“No, she didn’t hurt me.” I look over my shoulder, seeing my dragon’s silhouette in the sky. “She did however, piss-of my dragon.”

“You see,” Trixie exclaims. “She isn’t like us; she has been around humans. Talking and acting like them, I mean, look at her face.” She points wildly towards me, her face going red with anger. “She isn’t like us,” she repeats.

Oran turns to her, his jaw clenched, his hands squeezed into fists so tight they blanche. “She is a Princess and her lands are different from yours and mine. You will treat her with respect,” his voice is soft, but the undertone is not. His eyes flash a dark blue, they look like angry waves crashing on a sea front.

“She doesn’t act like one, talking like them, a human. We are meant to be Oran. You and I will rule my kingdom one day,” she pleads with him, holding onto his arm.

Ah, one of the Princesses. That explains her royal rudeness.

His shrugs her off, irritation on his beautiful face. “We are not matched; you and I both know this. I won’t repeat myself again.” He walks towards me, his strides confident and strong.

When he reaches me, his energy makes me suck in a breath. My magic reacts, linking to his. My eyes widen, watching it swirl around him, almost like a caress. He smiles, cupping my face with his hands. When I gaze into his eyes, they have softened. The angry waves gone, the sea blue eyes still. My breath hitches as his lips touch mine. Gentle and sure. The softness and fullness of them covering mine. My hands rest on his hard chest, feeling his heartbeat pick up.

When he pulls away, I pull him back, deepening the kiss. He smiles against my mouth, I flush embarrassed.

“Sorry,” I mutter against his lips.

“Don’t be, I have wanted to do that since I first laid eyes on you.” He kisses my forehead, before pulling away.

I realise my grandfather is still standing there. My face heats and I pull back. My grandfather’s eyebrow raises, a smirk on his face.

“Well granddaughter, that was certainly entertaining, and I see you are in good hands. I will leave you to it.” He winks before disappearing back into the building.

“ARE YOU KIDDING ME?” Trixie screeches f
rom where she is still stood. “You pick that over me? I am a Princess.”

I glare her way, pixie gods what is wrong with her? “So am I, high Princess.” I’m getting very annoyed with this female. “Why are you still standing there? Are you some kind of perv or something?” I fume.

Oran lays a hand on my shoulder; I look at him in question. “Let me handle her. Why don’t you meet me in the gym?” He smiles gently at me, my heart skips.

I nod, walking away. I hear a gentle roar in the sky, Mobsy obviously still angry with this pixie.
