Pixie (Pixie Hollow Academy Book 1) Page 9

“I’m going to walk the perimeter,” I tell them. They nod and stand guard once more.

My mind travels back to Pixie. I have been guarding her for a year now, before then, watching from afar. I lied when she found me a bloody mess, I wasn’t attacked at all, just used a glamour to appear so. Sighing at my own deception I carry on walking.

Having these forms, my dragon and shrinking to the smaller part of me is tiring. I will be glad when I tell her who I am, that I am her mate. That when I was born in the dragon world, my fate was set. My mother having the sight, foretold the future and my part in it. She told me that everything will fall into place at the right moment. It was she who sent me to protect her. Said the fate of all world would lie on her shoulders; no pressure then.

Watching her mate to the three pixie males has been frustrating. I fly away when I sense it coming, keeping my distance till morning. Knowing she is with them and protected is the only reason I leave. That was until I heard she was attacked by a dark pixie, the same dark pixie that I have been hunting.

My mind drifts back to Pixie. Her long body, curvy hips. The way her hair seems to flow around her, the strange colours that are so bright and vibrant like her soul. The way her lips part when she’s thinking. Her eyes lighting up when she sees me. My manhood twitches, just thinking about the way I want to explore her body. It makes me hard. I have never seen her naked, though I have many opportunities, but I would never do that to her. I respect her too much. I can’t say that I haven’t explored a female’s body like her other mates. I do wonder if that will be a problem for her.

I move into the woods, feeling a dark presence there. It may just be the creatures lurking in the dark, ready for their next prey, but I check it out anyway. My dragon sight comes in handy when I have to venture into dark places, it also keeps the predators at bay.

Something moves to my left, a shadow moving too fast for me to see what or who it may be. A twig snaps to my right, another shadow, but I get a glimpse of honey coloured hair. The female, the one called Honey.

I move fast, tracking her movements. I pause, sniffing the air to gather her scent, all I sense is darkness and not the sweet smell of honeysuckle that came from her when we met.

I see her then, standing before me. Her once golden eyes are now tinted red; her vibrant hair has shades of black running through it. She gazes at me, her head tilting to one side.

“You shouldn’t have come into the woods, no one makes it out alive with us here,” she says deadpanned. Eyes vacant. The once beautiful soul has almost vanished, there may be hope for her yet. “Me and my mate will feast on you.”

  “Mate?” I ask.

She nods behind me, I turn to see the one called Jay, the one who attacked my beloved. When I turn back to her, a sinister smile is placed on her lips, her sharp teeth glistening red. Blood.

Jay lunges for me, hand outstretched, claws instead of finger coming towards my face. His movements are swift and fast, but not fast enough. I move to the right, capturing his hand, snapping it backwards. I hold his body close to my chest so he can’t escape. Honey screeches, the sound echoing around the silent woods.

Jay struggles in my arms, his legs flailing, trying to free himself. I hold tight and just as Honey runs towards me, I squeeze, snapping his neck in one swift movement. He drops limp to the floor, and I watch as the life leaves his eyes. Honey wails, dropping to the floor, cradling his head in her lap.

“He’s dead, he’s dead,” she wails over and over.

I watch as the darkness moves from him, replaced by a red-haired male with red wings. A summer pixie. Odd, he must have been taken from these lands. Experimented on to create whatever that was. I have never seen such a creature before. The dark pixies are similar to the light ones, not feral and blood drinking.

“Get up,” I order, showing no mercy. I know she is friends with Pixie, but her wailing is starting to irritate me.

Her eyes flash, she snarls, a sound so feral I step back. She lunges for me. My hand snaps out grabbing her throat, she grips my hand that is holding her, wheezing and gasping for air.

  “Sleep,” I murmur.

She stills in my hand. I pick her up and cradle her to my chest. I will take her to the academy, they can deal with her there.

Turning away from the dead pixie at my feet, I head back to the fields. Just before I leave, I hear a howl and flesh tearing. I wince, but it is more then he deserves after attacking my Pixie and taking her friend.

I expand my wings, flying toward the academy. Now is the time to reveal myself. I have a feeling she is going to be pissed.

  Who Is Mobsy?

  Maxell

I sense her the moment she arrives back at the academy, my intended, my mate. I sprint through the halls, her essence becoming stronger with each step. It leads me outside, where I find her in a male’s arms, a male with purple dragon wings. I sprint towards them, coming to a halt when seeing my beloved in the state she is in.

I gasp upon seeing her once vibrant hair a dull mess of black and blonde. Her skin pale and the blood stains on her clothes. I edge forward, my careful steps watched and calculated by the dragon, who becomes more familiar the closer I get.

When I reach her, he hands her to me and I cradle my Honey in my arms. Her dull magic thuds against mine. Tears well in my eyes, I have her back. I have my soul back.

“She is your intended,” the dragon rumbles.

“She is, thank you for bringing her back to me.” I nod. “Who are you? I feel I have met you before.”

“And you have, I am the one that sits atop Pixies shoulder.” He grins as my jaw drops.

Damn, how many forms does he have? “I can sense an old magic from you.”

“I am from the old worlds, the spirit world. That is what you are sensing.”

  “Where is the male?”

  “Dead.”

“Care to elaborate? We needed him to tell us who he is working for.”

“She will tell you.” He nods at Honey. “You don’t need the male.

Sighing, I shift Honey’s weight, so her head is resting against my chest.

The tall male shifts his gaze to the entrance, Pixie stands there, eyes wide, cheeks flushed.

“You know she is going to be angry?” I tell him.

“I am aware,” he replies watching her.

“Good luck,” I say, walking towards Pixie.

She meets me halfway, tears in her eyes. “How?” she asks.

I nod towards the dragon. “He found her. I need to get her to the infirmary, see if they can reverse whatever this is.”

“Yeah, sure. I will be along shortly.” A frown etched on her face as she watches me walk away. “She’s your mate?” she asks shocked. “That’s why I hadn’t met her yet. It was Honey.” She smiles.

“Yes, I didn’t want to say, you know, just in case.” She nods her understanding. I carry on walking, a smile on my face.

“More details later, brother,” she calls.

I laugh, then hear shouting. Good luck buddy, I mutter, shaking my head.

  Pixie

“You’re who?” I scream, marching towards him. He backs out, arms up in surrender. I would have laughed if I wasn’t so pissed at him.

“Pixie, now wait a second,” he rumbles.

But it’s too late, I have already clocked him in his jaw. I swing again, but he catches my wrist pulling me to him.

  “Pixie,” he growls.

I shiver, feeling the vibration travel down my body. I shudder, the feeling travelling between my legs, my growing arousal making him stiffen. Making me stiffen. What the hell?

I back away from him, confused. “Who are you? Why have you been in dragon form this entire time? For a whole year you have been with me, never leaving my side. Then you show up as this.” I throw my hands towards him, surprised that he flinches. “Who are you?” I demand.

“Can we maybe go somewhere more private? We are drawing a crowd,” he asks.

  “
No. Tell me your name. Now!”

He sighs, rubbing a hand through his hair. Hair that I notice for the first time is purple, a purple that mirrors the same as his dragon. His broad shoulders move up and down as he breathes heavily, inching closer to me.

My body reacts to him, I put my hand out halting him. “Don’t Mobsy, or whatever your name is.”

  “Velour,” he murmurs.

Pixie gods, even his name makes me aroused. What is happening to me? “Why do I feel this way towards you? After all this time, why now?”

“Because I am in my true form.”

“I don’t understand any of this. I have enough to deal with as it is, I can’t deal with this too.” I back away, turning to walk back into the academy.

  “Please, let me explain.”

“No, just leave me alone for a bit. I need time to think.” I walk back towards the entrance.

I decide not to go back to my mates’ room, instead I go to the infirmary to check on Honey. I walk past the stares, but I am used to it, it doesn’t faze me anymore.

I walk through the door, seeing Honey laying on the bed, her eyes are closed and she looks peaceful. Maxell sits by her side, worry in his eyes. Pulling a chair from the side, I sit beside him.

The blood drains from my face when I see how pale she is. I see black veins in her neck, creeping to her face.

“What is that?” I say, pointing towards her neck.

“It’s the darkness in her,” he says sadly. “Every time he bit her, it took her soul, replacing it with the darkness, the emptiness. And when he forced her to feed, it took more of her.”

“She’s lucky she was found then, it hasn’t fully taken hold of her.”

“No, it hasn’t, thank the pixie gods.”

  “Can they reverse it?”

“No, only she can. She has to push away the darkness that is consuming her.”

“She’s strong willed, we can help her,” I say positively.

“Did you manage to talk to the dragon shifter?”

“You know who he is?” I ask sharply.

“He told me, keep your hair on,” he chuckles.

“Oh, and no I didn’t really give him a chance to.”

“Maybe you should, everyone has their part to play in all this, including myself.”

“I will, but not now. I have enough to deal with, like finding Jay.”

  “He didn’t tell you?”

  “Tell me what?”

  “He killed him.”

  “What? Are you joking?”

“Nope, we all have Honey to rely on to tell us the whereabouts of this so-called master.”

“And what if she doesn’t tell us in time?”

“Then we will deal with it.”

Sighing I stand, putting the chair back. “You have to tell me your story, why you didn’t feel the need to tell me Honey was your intended, your mate.”

“I didn’t say because I was scared, I was scared I lost her for good. I was struggling but held strong in the hopes she would come back to me.”

“Did it happen when she arrived here?”

“No. I met her when you were away. I know she felt it too. I knew I couldn’t do anything at that moment, my goal was protecting you and I saw it as a distraction.” He winces, taking Honey’s hand. “I wish I did now, she wouldn’t be in this mess otherwise.”

“You can’t blame yourself for this, it wasn’t your fault.”

“I don’t feel that way. I feel I could have prevented this.”

“Maybe I could have too, warned her away from him or found out what he was up to.”

Honey shifts, her eyes fluttering. “Pixie,” she says, her eyes opening.

We both gasp at the red surrounding the honey coloured irises. “Honey,” I say, bending to her.

As soon as I’m close enough, she lunges, grabbing my hair. She yanks me forward, screaming in my face, spittle landing on my cheek.

“You had him killed!!” she yells.

I manage to extract myself from her grasp, breathing heavily as Maxell calms her. Honey’s eyes go glassy before they close. Her breathing becomes even again as she settles into the induced sleep.

“What are we going to do if we can’t cure her?”

  “We will Pixie, have faith.”

I left shortly after Honey woke again, her eyes gleamed as they watched me but when Maxell drew her attention away from me, she relaxed. So, I decided to leave. I walked back to my room; it gave me time to think about the events happening. Someone in our lands had to be controlling these events, it’s the only explanation. Even though my father doesn’t agree with me, I believe Sofia is involved, I know she is, and I plan to confront her.

When I open the door to my room, I find Oran, Felix, Zane and Mobsy sat around my room. My eyes narrow, staring straight at Mobsy, or should I say Velour.

“Why are you here?” I say, pointing towards him.

“Pixie,” Oran says, “let him explain. I assure you he has a good explanation for staying in his dragon form.”

I huff, turning my head back to the dragon.

“Fine, talk dragon.” Folding my arms, I watch him shift uneasily. “I haven’t got all day,” I say irritated,“talk.”

“Pixie, I have my reasons for not showing myself. I knew you would take me back to your home eventually and I couldn’t be seen as what you see before you. Sofia’s eyes are watchful, she didn’t allow me in the throne room, right?” he says, I nod reluctantly.

“I have a feeling she is behind this somehow, but for what gain, I’m not sure.”

  “For the throne?” Oran asks.

“No, it’s more then that. She has the throne, for now anyway. There has to be something bigger.”

“My father swears she’s not connected,” I say.

“What does your gut tell you? What instincts do you have?” Velour asks.

  “That she is behind this.”

“Exactly. When I was out on one of my flights, I saw her talking to a shadow. At first, I thought maybe I imagined it, but recently I have been watching the palace and I saw her again, only this time it was a man.”

“Is my father in danger?” I ask panicked.

  “Not that I could see.”

“That doesn’t answer my question and you still haven’t told me why you are here.” I can see he is about to fight me on this, his eyes flash, and I feel his anger.

“Don’t try and get out of it, just tell me or leave.” We stare each other down, when he sees I won’t back down, he gives in.

“Fine, but I was told by my mother to wait for the right time. I guess it’s now.” He rubs his face, pushing the purple bangs out of his eyes.

“A year ago, my mother came to me, told me I had to find someone and that someone is you. She told me that our lives are intertwined and the fate of our worlds rested on our shoulders.” He gestures to my mates and me. “We, my kind, left your lands because of the war and the divide between us. But something is coming, something dark and powerful that only we can stop. I will be your wings Pixie; I will fly you into victory.”

“Why do I need you? You’ve been nothing but deceitful.”

“Because I am your mate, Pixie.”

  “I don’t feel the bond,” I lie.

He calls it. “Liar,” he smirks.

“Look, you,” I say advancing on him, my magic flares, swirling around me, “you were with me for an entire year, and I didn’t feel a damn thing,” I almost scream.

He takes a step forward, my magic licking at his skin. He doesn’t flinch, he just stands there, gazing down at me. Why are all these males so tall?

That’s when I notice the room has gone quiet, all eyes are on me. Every male in the room reacts to my magic, moving forward and surrounding me. Mobsy’s purple magic caresses mine, and is joined by the blue magic of Oran, Zane and Felix, their green and yellow magic dancing with mine.

My body heats under the intense stares of my males. My dust-filled wings appear drawing
a gasp from me. Mobsy’s eyes widen, then he drops to his knee, fist over his heart.

“Your majesty,” he says, head bowed.

I splutter, moving to grab his shoulders and stand him up, but then the others follow, Felix giving me a devilish grin.
